FYI: There will be NO CELL PHONES allowed at camp this summer. All phones will be collected at check-in - even if your phone doubles as your iPod. You have been warned.

Congrats to Andrew Assaleh!

He got third place in the Creative Poetry contest for the third grade. We are very proud of all our kids who entered the creative festivals this year.

Welcome Sub-deacon Joseph Hazar - May 29, 2009 PDF Print E-mail
May 29, 2009 at 03:20 PM

Sub-deacon Joseph Hazar, the son of immigrants from Jdeidit Marja’youn, Lebanon, and Damascus, Syria, was born in Brooklyn, NY, and was baptized at St. Nicholas Cathedral by (now) Bishop DEMETRI (Khouri). From a young age, Joseph has had a love for the Church, and has served in every capacity possible, knowing that he would one day work for the Church fulltime.

Joseph graduated with a degree in Human Development from Hellenic College, the only Orthodox undergraduate college in North America. On Palm Sunday, 2004, he was ordained Sub-deacon by His Eminence, Metropolitan PHILIP.

After graduating from Hellenic College, Joseph took a couple of years off of school in order to experience working for the Church. He was hired for three months as the camp director of Camp St. Mary in Livonia, MI, but ended up staying for almost two years as the youth director.

At the end of his time in Livonia, Joseph was sent to St. Tikhon’s Seminary by two of the Archdiocese Hierarchs. While in school, Joseph was asked to travel with, and serve as secretary to, Bishop MARK of Toledo. In addition to his schoolwork and responsibilities to the Bishop, Joseph has also traveled to several parishes and given retreats to youth across the country. Sub-deacon Joseph tutors Antiochian Seminarians in Byzantine Music, Liturgics, and Arabic at the Seminary. He will return to seminary for his second year of studies after interning here at the Spiritual Center of the Mid-American Diocese of St. Elijah in Oklahoma City.
